Chances are, you’ve seen the movie “The Sound of Music.” Remember? It’s all about Maria, a young Austrian woman studying to become a nun who goes to be a governess for a retired naval captain. He has seven children, all of whom are different ages. As Maria gets to know the family better, she realizes she doesn’t want to be a nun. But her concerns go far beyond her future career — the Nazis have invaded Austria, and they want the retired naval captain to fight with them. This classic tale has everything you could want from a story: children’s antics, romance, and, of course, the importance of sticking to your values and beliefs. And now, you get to see “The Sound of Music” live at the Coronado Performing Arts Center.
The performance is coming to Rockford on Tuesday, March 26, at 7:30 p.m. This is a touring show, so it’s only in town for one night, and you don’t want to miss out. Tickets range from $35 to $65 depending on where you want to sit, and they are selling out fast. Get yours today so you can reserve your spot.
Bring Your Family
This musical is one of those classics the whole family can enjoy. Don’t you remember watching the movie as a kid? Since a lot of the story is about children, kids can certainly relate to it. It also gives them a mini-history lesson — you can explain the political history that’s behind the main plot of this story.
If you are bringing young children with you, you may want to show them the movie first. That way, they’ll have a better idea of what’s going on when you make it to the actual performance.
